Our Programs
At Cascadia Virtual Lions, we partner with established service programs to expand access to meaningful volunteer opportunities. Our members can contribute locally while still being part of a wider virtual network. These programs allow Cascadia Virtual Lions members to make a real, local impact while participating virtually. By connecting with these initiatives, members can contribute to vision care, accessibility, environmental sustainability, and overall community support—all without leaving their own neighborhood.

KOTB – Grandpa’s White Cane Project
Location: Across participating communities
Focus: Supporting individuals with vision impairment

How to Help:

Two volunteers (one vision-impaired, one sighted) visit local 3rd grade classrooms to share the story of Grandpa’s White Cane.

Educate children and community members about vision challenges and accessibility.

Promote understanding and empathy for people with visual impairments.

Encourage students to participate in related activities and discussions.

Share information about the importance of vision health.

NWLERC – Northwest Lions Eyeglass Recycling Center
Location: Thurston County, WA
Focus: Recycling eyeglasses for those in need

How to Help:

Collect used eyeglasses in your community.

Sort, clean, and prepare glasses virtually using simple supplies: vinegar and water spray, a clean white cotton towel, and a pair of gloves.

Coordinate drop-offs at local Lions collection sites to send to NWLERC.

Promote eyeglass collection drives in your neighborhood or workplace.

Plusoptix Vision Screening
Location: Pierce County
Focus: Vision screening for preschool children.

Assist with local preschool vision screening events (currently supporting 7 preschools annually).

Help coordinate logistics, volunteer schedules, or information sharing.

Promote awareness about the importance of early vision health.

Trex Recycling – Soft Plastics Program
Location: Various local drop-off sites across communities
Focus: Collecting and recycling soft plastics to prevent environmental waste
- How to Help:
- Collect clean soft plastics (bags, film, wrap) at home, record weight, and send info (optional for )
- Drop off at local ecycling drop-off location such as QFC, Walmart, Fred Meyers, Safeway, Home Depot. Many stores have a collion bin outside their main door entry area.
- Organize a neighborhood or family collection drive and drop off contributions
- Educate friends, family, and neighbors about plastic recycling
